A PROJECT OF FIHI MA FIHI WORLDS

(In cultural partnership with Great Small Works)

Spaghetti Karevan

Culture. Economics. Politics.

Building the relationships for another world.

ANOTHER WORLD IS POSSIBLE

Spaghetti Karevan is a cultural project exploring how we can build a different kind of future through culture, economics, and politics.

We believe these three spheres are deeply connected.

Culture shapes what we imagine and value.

Economic choices shape what we are able to build and sustain.

Political power shapes the systems we live within.

If we want a different world, we have to work across all three.

OUR STORY

Spaghetti Karevan began as Spaghetti Ramadan, a gathering built around food, music, art, storytelling, and community. In 2016 New York City, we recognized the need to build long-term, inter-communal, interfaith solidarity work — creating space to deepen our bonds as the fires of political polarization and tribalism were being stoked. What began as a project between Muslims and Jews has since grown to include many communities.

Over the past ten years, it has grown into something larger: a space for artists, cultural workers, organizers, community leaders, and friends from across New York to come together, celebrate one another, and imagine what is possible.

Alongside the cultural work, we have increasingly explored questions of political power, leadership, solidarity, and economic alternatives. Through Unity Circle, we have spent the past two-plus years asking what it means to build collective power rooted in community, accountability, and care.

Most recently, we have undertaken nearly nine months of marketplace development research, building toward a values-aligned economic network — one organization and one leader at a time. Now we are bringing these pieces together.

THE THREE ARMS

Culture

How do we change what people imagine is possible?

We support artists, cultural workers, and spaces that create new stories, bring people together, and expand our sense of what a different world could look like.

Music. Art. Theater. Food. Comedy. Storytelling. Community.

Culture is where we begin.

Economics

How do we put our values into practice through what we support?

Where do we spend our money? Who do we invest in? Which businesses and organizations do we help grow? We are building relationships with businesses, organizational leaders, and funders who care about their workers, their communities, and the impact of their investments.

We believe economic power can help build the infrastructure for the future we want.

Politics

How do we build the collective power to change our systems?

We connect with grassroots organizers, community organizers, elected officials, and public servants who are working toward more accountable, responsive, and just systems.

We believe political change is strengthened by the cultural and economic ecosystems around it.

BUILDING THE WEB

Building the Web

We are not trying to do this work alone.

There are already countless artists, organizers, businesses, community organizations, and leaders building pieces of this future. Our work is to connect them.

We are building a growing web of relationships across New York and beyond, where cultural power, economic power, and political power reinforce one another.

A place where we can discover one another, support one another, promote one another, and build together.

WHAT WE ARE BUILDING TOWARD

We believe another world is possible.

A world where leadership is rooted in integrity and accountability.

Where businesses are responsible to their communities.

Where artists and cultural workers have the resources to create.

Where political power is connected to the people it represents.

Where communities invest in one another rather than being divided against one another.

We do not have a blueprint for this world.

We are building the relationships that might make it possible.
